Bangladesh University of Textiles is the only one public university in Bangladesh which is specialized in Textile Engineering. There are so many private universities in Bangladesh which provides different textile courses and degrees but Bangladesh University of Textiles is the best one. Bangladesh University of Textiles generally known as BUTEX.  To full fill the demand of technical and educated person in textile sector, BUTEX provides different types textile degree with latest and technical education policies.

Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) has glorious history. This is a historical university in this country. In 1921, during British Colonial Rule a Weaving School was established in Narinda, Dhaka to meet technical and educated person in this industry. After that it was named East Bengal Textile Institute and offered different types textile courses and then the institute renamed as College of Textile Technology and offered 4 years bachelor degree in textile technology under The University of Dhaka. At last “Bangladesh Textile University Act, 2010 has been passed by the Bangladesh National Assembly and the Honorable President has given consent to the act on 5, October, 2010. The act was made effective from 22, December, 2010 as per SRO No. 395-law/2010 date 20 December, 2010 of the Ministry of Education. Honorable Prime Minister has officially inaugurated the Bangladesh University of Textiles on 15 March, 2011. The present campus of the university is located in Tejgaon Industrical Area, Dhaka. Now the university provides graduate and postgraduate degree in six different specialized areas of Textile.

Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) has large campus (11.67 acres land) area which increase its beauty more. The infrastructure area of the university about 86,800 sq. ft for academic and administration, 15 Workshops, and 84,000 sq. ft area for laboratories. A development project to improve infrastructure is under process for approval.

BUTEX has a big library for their students. The library includes more than 15,000 books, journals etc. the library rich with technical and non-technical books and journals which helps students more. BUTEX has rich workshop and laboratory to provide their students technical knowledge as well as theory knowledge.  The university has Yarn manufacturing Lab, Weaving Lab, Knitting Lab, Wet processing Lab, Garments Lab etc.
